Works in Gesso Series

Gesso is a versatile material that depending on its consistency can be brushed, dipped, poured, sanded and carved. I have used all of these approaches in these three-dimensional works. Creating textured surfaces with gesso and working with found objects submerged in a batter of gesso is how I begin to prepare the elements to create a narrative. The preparation of these objects can be likened to a culinary experience. Mixing batters, using icing spatulas, dipping forms and curing times are all part of the process.

The added dimensionality and play of shadow and light is what attracts me to continue exploring these sculptural works.
